Clayton Carper (Iowa State) and Nichole Jones (Baylor) have been dubbed the first Big 12 Cross Country Runners of the Week for the 2008 season. This is the first conference weekly award for Carper and the third for Jones.

Carper led the pack at the 2008 Bulldog Classic hosted by Drake at Ewing Park in Des Moines, Iowa. He clocked a time of 12:13 in the 4K race as the Cyclones swept the top four finishes and claimed the win for the second year. The Mason City native finished 16 seconds ahead of teammate Ben Murphy.
Nichole Jones, Baylor, Jr., Spring, Texas/Westfield
Jones began 2008 in similar fashion as she repeated her 2007 performance at the Baylor Twilight Invitational. She finished in first-place by six seconds over teammate Erin Bedell with a time of 14:03.91, and helped the Bears to a second-straight team championship as the team recorded 21 points and secured the top six positions in the race. The win for Jones marked the fifth individual title of her career.
