Seven Big 12 track and field athletes combined for four national titles at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

Oklahoma’s Ronnie Ash defended his NCAA crown in the 60-meter hurdles (7.56). The 2010 Big 12 60-meter hurdle champion posted the third-fastest time by an American this year during the prelims of the NCAA championship, 7.55. Ash became the first Big 12 male athlete to win an individual title in this event.  

In the men’s 200-meter dash, sophomore Aggie Curtis Mitchell cruised to a national title with a time of 20.38. His performance broke a 22-year-old school record. His time in the event ranks as the 15th best time on the all-time world list, 10th-best on the all-time American list and eighth on the all-time collegiate list. This marks the second straight year a Big 12 student-athlete has won the event.

Big 12 teams placed first and second in the men’s 4x400-meter relay. Texas A&M’s squad of Demetrius Pinder, Bryan Miller, Tabarie Henry and Curtis Mitchell took home the national title with a time of 3:04.40. They lowered their world-leading time and Aggie school record from 3:04.86. Baylor’s Michael Liggins, Trey Harts, Zwede Hewitt and Marcus Boyd followed in second (3:05.01).

On the women’s side, Iowa State’s Lisa Koll picked up the 5,000-meter title, clocking a 15:39.65. The senior distance runner gave the Big 12 its fourth consecutive individual champion in the indoor event (2007-10).

Two women’s teams (Texas A&M and Iowa State) finished in the top 10. The Aggie men placed second with 44 points.
