Iowa State's Lisa Koll has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Outdoor Track Scholar of the Year for 2010. The honor is the second for Koll, who picked up the same distinction in 2008, and marks the third straight year a Big 12 athlete has collected the honor in the outdoor track category.
Koll, a native of Fort Dodge, Iowa, was the NCAA Outdoor Champion in the 5000 and 10,000 meters and became the fourth female in collegiate history to win both of those events at a single championship. Koll also reset the 10,000-meter collegiate record in March with a 31:18.07 run and is one of three finalists for The Bowerman.
In the winter 2010 term, she was a graduate student in veterinary medicine and has compiled a 3.74 cumulative GPA in her career.
Koll is one of 96 Big 12 student-athletes to be named to the USTFCCCA's Division I All-Academic Track & Field teams, with 64 women and 32 men from the league collecting honors. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, student-athletes must have compiled a grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championship in their respective event.
