Smith Named Walter Camp Defensive Player Of The Week

Missouri's Aldon Smith, a sophomore defensive end, was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week.

Smith earns the honor after recording a team-high 10 tackles in Mizzou's 23-13 win over Illinois on Saturday, Sept. 4. Smith also had two sacks and one quarterback hurry as the Tigers held Illinois scoreless in the second half.

In its seventh year, the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Bowl subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of nation media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Outstanding performances during games played on Sunday, Sept. 5, or Monday, Sept. 6, will be considered for next week's award.

Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson was the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week recipient as he led Michigan to a 30-10 victory over Connecticut.
