Texas A&M Sweeps Track & Field Weekly Honors

Texas A&M duo Henry Lelei and Natosha Rogers have been named Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Athletes for competition Feb. 3-5. It is the first weekly honor for both student-athletes. This marks the sixth time in the past four years that Texas A&M has received both male and female awards in the same week.

Henry Lelei, Texas A&M, Jr., Kapsabet, Kenya/Central Arizona
Lelei was named outstanding male performer of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational as he led the Aggies to the men's team title in a field of 130 squads. He broke a 12-year-old school record in the mile with his 4:01.49 winning effort, finishing ahead of some of the nation's best athletes. The junior also recorded a 1,600-meter split of 3:57.2 as he anchored the Texas A&M distance medley relay to a world-leading time of 9:29.71. That mark is an NCAA automatic time and set a school record. The medley relay foursome of James Bonn, Michael Preble, Joey Roberts and Lelei also broke meet and facility records.

Natosha Rogers, Texas A&M, Jr., Littleton, Colo.
Topping the field by 27-plus seconds, Rogers claimed the title in the 5,000-meters at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City. Her time of 15:58.40, which ranks second in the nation, lowered her career best by 17 seconds. The Littleton, Colo.-native broke the eight-year-old indoor school record previously set by Melissa Gulli at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championship. Rogers is on a current streak of setting a school record each time she has raced this indoor season, now through five meets.
