Three Big 12 Golfers Land on Ben Hogan Award Watch List

Three Big 12 men's golfers have been named to the 2012 Ben Hogan Award watch list. Texas is one of six schools to have two nominees.

Missouri's Jace Long is joined by the Texas duo of Dylan Frittelli and Jordan Spieth as representatives of the league on the 28-member list.

Long is a two-time Missouri Golf Association Player of the Year honoree. He currently ranks 52nd in the nation among collegiate male individuals by GolfWeek. The Dixon, Mo.-native led the Tigers in the fall, taking home top spot honors at the Wolverine Intercollegiate and Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.

Spieth and Frittelli are currently ranked first and second in the nation by GolfWeek, respectively. The pair has helped Texas to four consecutive wins in the 2011-12 season. Spieth, a freshman, earned his first collegiate title at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational last fall. Frittelli, a senior from Pretoria, South Africa, has collected five top-10 finishes on the season. UT has defeated its opponents by an average margin of 20.67 strokes in the last four matches.

The most prestigious award in men's college golf, The Ben Hogan Award, is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer, taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during the past 12-month period.

In the award's 12-year tenure, three conference athletes, all from Oklahoma State, have garnered the honor. Hunter Mahan received the award in 2003, Rickie Fowler in 2008 and Peter Uihlein is the latest recipient, having earned the honor last season.

A list of 10 semifinalists will be unveiled on April 11, and then will be pared down to three finalists on May 10. The winner will be crowned at a banquet at Colonial Country Club on May 21 prior to the start of the PGA TOUR's Crowne Plaza Invitational.
