The Baylor and Oklahoma men's tennis teams advanced to the NCAA Tennis Championships Sweet 16 with second round wins on their home courts. The Bears and Sooners will join the Texas men and Baylor women's teams in Athens, Georgia for the round of 16. The Longhorns and Lady Bears picked up second round victories on Saturday.
The sixth-ranked Baylor men’s tennis team (25-5) defeated No. 43 Tulsa, 4-1, Sunday. Baylor claimed the doubles point for the second straight day with wins on courts two and three. The Bears dropped only one singles match on the day. Baylor will face 12th-ranked Illinois (24-8) on Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m. CT in the round of 16 of the NCAA Championships
No. 2 overall seed Oklahoma (25-3) defeated Harvard (18-7), 4-0, at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion Sunday afternoon. After a contentious doubles battle, Oklahoma cruised to three straight-set singles victories on courts one, two and five. The win was the 100th for head coach John Roddick. Oklahoma will face No. 15 Kentucky, 4-3 winners over Clemson, in the round of 16 Friday, May 16, at 3 p.m. CT.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys (22-8) saw their season come to an end at the hands of USC. OSU fell by a final score of 4-1. The 22-8 record posted by the Cowboys in 2014 was the best for the program since finishing 22-7 in 2005.
The league's four remaining squads, the Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas men and the Baylor women will now travel to Athens, Georgia for the third round of the event.
