Scoring Story
There were 34 total touchdowns from scrimmage in Saturday's five Big 12 games. The 20 rushing touchdowns averaged 8.3 yards and the 14 passing TDs averaged 26.3 yards. There were two fumble recoveries for touchdowns (a 35-yard return and a recovery in the end zone), an 86-yard kickoff return and a 38-yard interception return.
Of the 34 touchdowns from scrimmage, 12 drives lasted less than two minutes and six of those required less than 60 seconds.
Baylor (7-1, 4-1; defeated Kansas, 60-14; at Oklahoma Saturday)
Kicker Chris Callahan became the 6th FBS player to make four field goals in a quarter and the first since Oregon State's Jose Cortez on Oct. 31, 1998. Callahan's four field goals tied a school single-game record.
Wide receiver Corey Coleman had a career-high 167 yards receiving (on three catches) including a career-best 72-yard touchdown reception.
Running back Devin Chafin had a career-high 112 rushing yards.
Baylor has scored 60-plus points in 10 of its last 21 games, 40-plus in 31 of its last 40 games and 30-plus in 35 of its last 40.
Iowa State (2-6, 0-5; lost to Oklahoma 59-14; at Kansas Saturday)
Receiver D'Vario Montgomery's first career touchdown pass covered 59 yards and was the longest play from scrimmage for the Cyclones this season.
Freshman Allen Lazard had a team-high five receptions for 51 yards and has a catch in all eight games.
Tight end E.J. Bibbs has caught a pass in 20 consecutive games, tying for the fourth-longest streak in school history.
Iowa State has 25 touchdowns from scrimmage and 16 of those scoring drives have been 75 yards or longer.
Kansas (2-6, 0-5; lost to Baylor, 60-14; vs. Iowa State Saturday)
Junior quarterback Michael Cummings threw for a career-high 288 yards and is the first KU quarterback since 2009 with four consecutive games of at least 200 yards passing.
Freshman running back Cory Avery had a career-best 49-yard reception and a career-high four catches.
Kansas allowed its highest point total this season and gave up 60 for the first time since 2011.
Kansas finished with 16 yards rushing, its lowest production on the ground since gaining 11 yards against Oklahoma in 2005.
Kansas has lost its 28th consecutive true road game and has a 31-game overall losing streak away from Lawrence. The Jayhawks' last road victory came on Sept. 12, 2009 against UTEP. The Jayhawks have lost 24 consecutive Big 12 road games.
Kansas forced a Baylor three-and-out on its first possession; the only other time the Bears didn't get at least one first down on its opening possession was at Iowa State.
Kansas State (7-1, 5-0; defeated Oklahoma State, 48-14; at TCU Saturday)
Senior wide receiver Tyler Lockett moved into second place in school history in receiving yards and touchdown receptions. His father Kevin leads in both categories.
Senior wide receiver Curry Sexton had nine receptions for a career-high 159 yards and a career-best 64-yard touchdown catch.
Junior defensive tackle Travis Britz had a career-high two sacks.
Matthew McCrane made a career-best 53-yard field goal, the first 50-yarder made by a K-State kicker since 2011.
K-State is 39-of-42 in the red zone this season, including a perfect 25-of-25 effort in the last five games.
K-State has returned a kickoff for a touchdown in 10 consecutive seasons, the best streak in the nation.
Oklahoma (6-2, 3-2; defeated Iowa State, 59-14; vs. Baylor Saturday)
Trevor Knight (146 yards) and Alex Ross (144 yards) each had career-best rushing days and Ross had his first 100-yard game.
Oklahoma had three 100-yard rushers – Trevor Knight (146), Alex Ross (144), Samaje Perine (110). The last time the Sooners had three 100-yard rushers was Nov. 7, 1992 vs. Missouri.
Kicker Michael Hunnicutt became the Big 12's all-time career leader for field goals made with 72.
Oklahoma had 510 yards rushing, the most since gaining 518 yards vs. New Mexico State on Sept. 2, 1989 and the 751 yards in total offense was the fourth-most in school history.
Oklahoma State (5-4, 3-3; lost to Kansas State, 48-14; vs. Texas Nov. 15)
Tyreek Hill scored his first career rushing touchdown and now has one rushing TD, one receiving TD and two kickoff return TDs. Hill became Oklahoma State's first 100-yard rusher this season, gaining 102 yards.
Oklahoma State scored a touchdown on its game-opening drive for the first time this season.
The last time Oklahoma State gave up a kickoff return touchdown it came against the same opponent - Kansas State's Tyler Lockett in 2012.
Oklahoma State has had 20 players make their first career start this season. That is the third-most first-time starters in the country behind Vanderbilt (26) and Southern Miss (22).
TCU (7-1, 4-1; defeated West Virginia, 31-30; vs. Kansas State Saturday)
Jaden Oberkrom's 37-yard field goal on the final play of the game was the 50th of his career.
Deante' Gray has seven touchdown receptions this season; entering 2014, he had eight career receptions.
Linebacker Paul Dawson had a team-high 12 tackles and his third interception of the season. He has now taken part in a takeaway in six of eight games this season.
TCU is 25-3 against top 10 teams under coach Gary Patterson.
TCU had two sacks and two interceptions, extending its nation's-best streak to 10 consecutive games with at least one sack and one interception.
Texas (4-5, 3-3; defeated Texas Tech, 34-13; vs. West Virginia Saturday)
Running back Malcolm Brown had 116 yards on 22 carries, the first 100-yard game for a UT back this season.
Senior wide receiver John Harris had five receptions for a career-high 165 yards including a career-best 68-yard catch.
Kicker Nick Rose mad a career-long 46-yard field goal.
Texas had a season-high 241 yards rushing, the most since gaining 281 last season against Texas Tech.
Texas had a season-best 12 explosive plays (runs of 12 yards or more, completions of 16 yards or more).
Texas Tech (3-6, 1-5; lost to Texas, 34-13; vs. Oklahoma Nov. 15)
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes became the fifth Texas Tech freshman to start and the fifth quarterback in the last 15 years to make his first career start at home in a Big 12 Conference game.
Linebacker Pete Robertson had his ninth sack of the season and is the first Texas Tech player in over 16 years with a sack in six consecutive games.
Junior linebacker Micah Awe (12) and junior safety J.J. Gaines (12) each had career highs in tackles.
Texas Tech had 381 total yards and has 37 consecutive games (longest active streak in the FBS) of gaining at least 325 total yards.
West Virginia (6-3, 4-2; lost to TCU, 31-30; at Texas Saturday)
Terrell Chestnut's third quarter, forced fumble and return for a touchdown was the team's first fumble recovery of the season.
Defensive lineman Shaquille Riddick had one tackle for loss and has four consecutive games with at least one TFL. He had a career-best seven tackles.
Nick O'Toole had punts of 50, 55 and 59 yards today, giving him four straight games with at least one punt of 50-plus yards. He has 10 punts of 50 yards or more this season.
West Virginia has allowed only two teams to score on the opening drive of the game this season and has allowed only one touchdown on an opening drive.
