First Men?s Basketball Weekly Awards Announced

A Sooner and a Cyclone have captured the first men’s basketball weekly awards of the 2014-15 campaign. Oklahoma junior guard Buddy Hield has been chosen as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for the first time in his career, while Bryce Dejean-Jones of Iowa State is the league’s top newcomer. It marks the 20th time that an ISU student-athlete has been named top newcomer since Fred Hoiberg began his tenure there in 2010-11.

BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Buddy Hield, Oklahoma, G, Jr., 6-9, 209, Freeport, Bahamas/Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]
Hield scored a game-high 25 points to go along with seven rebounds in the Sooners’ 78-53 win over Southeastern Louisiana. The junior guard made 9-of-16 (.563) shots from the field, including 7-of-7 from 3-point range. The seven 3-pointers without a miss matched the Big 12 single-game record and also set an OU mark, previously shared by five others. It was also the most triples by a Sooner since Steven Pledger also made seven on January 29, 2011. Hield added two assists and one steal in 28 minutes of action.

BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Bryce Dejean-Jones, Iowa State, G, Sr., 6-6, 210, Los Angeles, Calif./Taft/UNLV
Dejean-Jones tallied his first career double-double in his first game as a Cyclone in Iowa State’s 93-82 win over Oakland. The senior guard finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes. He shot 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from the floor while converting 8-of-9 (.889) from the free throw line. It was his seventh career 20-point effort and the 11 rebounds established a career best. All five starters scored in double figures for the Cyclones in the contest.
