The Big 12 is the only conference in which every team plays each other and that has a true comparison of head-to-head results. Championships are won based on playing each conference opponent.
In each season since round robin play began, the Big 12 champion was determined in the last week of the season on Championship Saturday. Three teams are still in the hunt for the 2014 title, all with one conference loss.
The Big 12 is one of two power conferences to play a nine-game conference schedule. Due to the uneven number of conference games, Big 12 teams play five road games every other season.
Over the last five seasons, the Big 12 has had five different teams – half of its membership - win a conference championship in football. No other peer conference has had as many different champions since 2009.
The Big 12 is the only of the power conferences that will have played the last eight weeks of the season without a break from conference action.
Four Big 12 teams are in this week’s CFP Poll with three in the top 12.
Home teams went 2-2 in the four Big 12 games last week to hold onto a 19-18 advantage in conference play.
The Big 12 is one of just two FBS conferences that have two teams with no more than one loss on the season.
One-third (10) of the Big 12’s 30 non-conference games featured matchups against teams from the power conferences (ACC, Big Ten, SEC, Pac-12), no other peer conference played a higher percentage.
The Big 12 is the only power league that has faced three top-five ranked non-conference opponents and four rated in the Top 12. The average score differential in those four games was less than a touchdown.
Among all FBS leagues, the Big 12 is second in total offense (445.46) and passing offense (271.10). Fifty percent of Big 12 teams are in the top 18 nationally in total offense, averaging over 485 yards a game.
Samaje Perine (Oklahoma) was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Offensive Player of the Week after his FBS record 427-yard rushing performance. It marked the fifth week this season for the Big 12 to receive honors. Perine joins Clint Trickett (West Virginia/offense), Bryce Petty (Baylor/offense), Shaq Riddick (West Virginia/defense) and Trevone Boykin (TCU/offense).
