For the first time in Big 12 history, the Conference has seven teams ranked in the Associated Press top 25 poll. No. 9 Texas, No. 10 Kansas, No. 12 Iowa State, No. 18 West Virginia, No. 19 Oklahoma, No. 22 Baylor and No. 25 TCU are all part of this week’s national rankings. An eighth team, Oklahoma State, also received votes in the poll.
Nine of the 10 teams in the Big 12 have been ranked in the top 25 during this calendar year (2014), with 80 percent ranked or receiving votes this week alone. The Big 12 has boasted five ranked teams each of the past three weeks. It marks the first time that at least six squads have been ranked since December 13 and December 20, 2010.
The Big 12 has had multiple teams in the top 11 of the polls each week this season. The three teams in the top 12 and five in the top 20 this week are tied for the most of any conference. The seven teams overall is the most of any league and two more than the next closest conference - the ACC - which has five more teams as members.
The Big 12 boasts the nation’s best winning percentage (.857, 90-15) and has the fewest losses of any conference. It is rated as the No. 1 league in the latest RPI and Big 12 teams have won 28 of their last 30 games overall, including a 28-game winning streak between December 6 - 20. The Big 12 has had at least one team in the top 25 for every week in its entire history, a span of 354 consecutive weeks.
