Iowa State’s Earl Hall earned Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors for competition taking place from Dec. 29 to Jan. 5. It is the first Big 12 Weekly Award of Hall’s career.

Iowa State junior Earl Hall worked his way to the 133-pound title at the Southern Scuffle, after entering the tournament as the No. 5 overall seed. Hall picked up three victories over top-10 opponents in the effort, avenging a Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational loss to Virginia’s No. 10 George DiCamillo.

Hall picked up two victories following a first round bye in the first day of competition. He defeated Jared Browning of Chattanooga to begin the day by a score of 6-1. He came back in the second session and got a 6-4 dec. over Missouri’s Zach Synon.

On Day 2, Hall started the morning wrestling Virginia’s George DiCamillo, who beat Hall 9-2 earlier this season. Trailing 8-5 early in the third, Hall caught the Cavalier in a front headlock and the Homestead, Florida native was then able to roll DiCamillo to his back to get the fall.

In the semi-finals, Hall took down the number one seed Jimmy Gulibon of Penn State, ranked No. 5 nationally, by a score of 5-2. Hall then capped off the title run with a 5-3 decision over Michigan’s No. 8-ranked Rossi Bruno.
