Sager Named Capital One Academic All-District

The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been announced. Oklahoma State senior Christien Sager was named as one of five members to the All-District 7 squad.

The teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.

This is the second straight season that Sager has earned Academic All-District honors. The defensive-minded senior from Wichita Falls, Texas, owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average majoring in electrical engineering. He earned Senior of Significance honors at OSU, which is given to 50 seniors total (not just student-athletes) and is a three-time President's Honor Roll selection. Twice in his career Sager has secured a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

Sager has served as a tutor for other OSU student-athletes since June of 2013 and volunteered with Coaches vs. Cancer, Habitat for Humanity and numerous other worthwhile organizations during his time at Oklahoma State.

Sager is the only selection on the District 7 team to boast a 4.0 grade-point average and just one of two Division I players in all districts to have a 4.0 GPA. He is one of only 12 student-athletes in all divisions to boast that grade-point average.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the fourth year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
