For the first time this season, four different players have been honored with Big 12 weekly awards in the same week. Perry Ellis (Kansas) and Le’Bryan Nash (Oklahoma State) share player accolades, while TaShawn Thomas (Oklahoma) and Myles Turner (Texas) were named the top newcomers.
Phillips 66 Big 12 Players of the Week
Perry Ellis, Kansas, F, Jr., 6-8, 225, Wichita, Kan./Wichita Heights
Ellis averaged 16.0 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Jayhawks won at Texas Tech and defeated Baylor. The junior forward shot 52.2 percent from the field and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. He opened the week by just missing a double-double with 14 points and nine boards at Tech. He then tied for the game-high in scoring with 18 points against the Bears.
Le’Bryan Nash, Oklahoma State, F, Sr., 6-7, 235, Dallas, Texas/Lincoln
Nash contributed 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as the Cowboys split their two games last week. He scored 22 points in a win at No. 16 Baylor, including seven in the final three minutes to help secure the victory. He went for 19 points and seven boards at TCU, moving into fifth on the OSU career scoring list. He has the most points of any active Big 12 player.
Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomers of the Week
TaShawn Thomas, Oklahoma, F, Sr., 6-8, 242, Killeen, Texas/University of Houston
Thomas had 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 blocks per game in the Sooners’ 1-1 week. The senior forward shot 55.6 percent (15-of-27) from the field, including an 11-for-18 effort that tied for the most field goals by any player in a league game this season. He added 10 points at K-State, his 14th double-figure scoring effort of the year.
Myles Turner, Texas, F, Fr., 6-11, 240, Bedford, Texas/Euless Trinity
Turner averaged 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in 24.5 minutes per contest as the Longhorns extended their win streak to three games with two victories. The freshman forward turned in his best effort versus Texas Tech, finishing with 25 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. It was his third double-double of the season and first since December 2.
