PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kolbey Carpenter, Oklahoma, Jr., INF, Waco, Texas/West
Carpenter powered the Sooners to a quality bounce-back win over No. 10 Texas Tech on Saturday with a three-run home run, his fifth of the season, in the bottom of the fifth to erase a brief, 2-0 deficit. Batting leadoff for the first time in his career, Carpenter went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI in his first career four-hit game. On Sunday, he went 1-for-3 and knocked in a crucial insurance run that held up as the eventual game-winning RBI. For the week, Carpenter hit .455 (5-for-11) with four RBI and two stolen bases, while earning two starts at first base, one at second and appeared in left field.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Michael Freeman, Oklahoma State, Sr., LHP, Broken Arrow, Okla./Eastern Oklahoma State
Freeman tossed his first career complete game in Sunday’s series finale at TCU to lead Oklahoma State to a series win over the top-ranked Horned Frogs. The senior southpaw racked up nine strikeouts, one shy of his career high, and allowed only one earned run in the Cowboys’ 7-2 victory. A native of Broken Arrow, Okla., Freeman scattered six hits, five of them singles, over the nine inning effort and issued just one walk. He threw a career-high 127 pitches, 87 of those for strikes, as he improved to 4-0 on the season.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Cory Raley, Texas Tech, Jr., DH/INF, Uvalde, Texas/Temple College
Raley paced the Red Raiders last week in five games batting .391 (9-for-23) with five runs, two doubles, a triple, two RBI, a walk and a stolen base with a .417 on-base percentage and .565 slugging percentage.
