2015 All-Big 12 Men?s Golf Team Announced

With the 2014-15 men’s golf regular season in the books, the League office has named the 2015 All-Big 12 Golf Team as well as the league’s Player and Newcomer of the Year.

The All-Big 12 Men’s Golf Team is selected using the ten highest ranked players from the Golfweek/Sagarian rankings following the Big 12 Championship. From those 10 competitors, the highest ranked player is named the conference’s Player of the Year, while the highest ranked newcomer is tabbed as the Newcomer of the Year.

Texas’ Beau Hossler becomes the fourth Longhorn since the 2010 season to receive Player of the Year recognition with a Big 12 leading 69.17 Sagarin rating. The sophomore from Mission Viejo, Calif., recorded a 70.75 adjusted scoring average according to Golfstat, and amassed a 26-11 record against players ranked in the top-50. Hossler finished tied for eighth in the 2015 Big 12 Championship, climbing five spots in the final round to record a 289,(+9) total score for the Championship.

Freshman Scottie Scheffler became the fifth consecutive Longhorn to earn the Big 12 Newcomer of the year honor after winning the individual title at the 2015 Big 12 Championship, helping UT win its third consecutive team championship. Scheffler claimed a 71.15 adjusted scoring average for the season and checked in at No. 20 on the Golfweek rankings.

Texas head coach John Fields earned Coach of the Year honors for the third consecutive year after guiding the Longhorns to a No. 2 Overall ranking by Golfweek. Fields and the Longhorns outpaced Texas Tech by 24 strokes to break the Big 12 record for margin of victory and win their third straight conference championship. The Longhorns will make their run in post-season action in Lubbock, Texas at the Rawls Golf Club after earning a No. 1 seed.

Five teams were represented on the ten-man All-Big 12 Conference Team. Texas led all schools with four selections including Hossler, Scheffler, Gavin Hall and Doug Grim. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State each added two players including Michael Gellerman and Hirschman from the Sooners and Jordan Niebrugge and Kristoffer Ventura from the Cowboys. Baylor’s Kyle Jones and Texas Tech’s Clement Sordet rounded out the All-Big 12 team.
