Gotcher Earns McLendon Scholarship

Texas Tech guard Toddrick Gotcher has been named one of five recipients of the 16th annual John McLendon Minority Postgraduate Scholarship as announced by three national organizations.

In the spring of 2012, Capital One partnered with the John McLendon Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Foundation and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) to endow one of the five $10,000 scholarships being presented. Along with Capital One, the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) has sponsored two of the $10,000 scholarships, to aid in the education of future athletics academic advisors.

Gotcher earned his undergraduate degree in exercise and sports science degree in only three years. He is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection, a United States Olympic Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere (FLAME) program member and a Red Raider Club Scholar Athlete. Gotcher recently earned his master’s degree in sports management in May 2015 and is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in business marketing.

“I was honored when the committee when the John McLendon Scholarship committee named me as a recipient,” Gotcher said. “This is one of the top foundations, and I’m privileged to represent it well.”

Gotcher averaged 7.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists last season. He tallied seven of his 10 double figure scoring efforts against Big 12 opponents and started Tech’s last eight games of the season. Gotcher pumped in a career-best 18 points versus No. 17 Oklahoma on Feb. 21.
