Fresh off a victory over a top 10 opponent, Oklahoma State’s Kyle Crutchmer (174 pounds)has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week. The honor mark the junior’s first career weekly award.
Crutchmer took a crucial match at 174 pounds in the Cowboys’ dual against then-ranked No. 4 Iowa. The junior, ranked No. 4 nationally, took the mat against No. 6 Alex Meyer prevailing 11-10.
In the opening period Crutchmer took down the Hawkeye, putting him on his back for six points. A penalty gave Meyer a point back, while an escape and takedown cut Crutchmer’s lead to 6-4. The pair exchanged tallies in the second, both off takedowns, as Meyer tacked on two additional escape points to tie things up heading in to the final stanza. After awarding his opponent a point, Crutchmer scored a takedown and ran off the riding time to capture an 11-10 victory.
