Oklahoma State’s Dean Heil (141 pounds) is this week’s Big 12 Wrestler of the Week following a hard-fought triumph against the No. 2 rated wrestler in his weight class. The honor marks Heil’s first career weekly award and the third consecutive week a sophomore has claimed a share of the accolade.
The top ranked wrestler defeated No. 2 Kevin Jack of NC State in a 10-8 decision last week. With the victory, Heil improved his overall record to 7-0 and 4-0 in duals, adding to his two victories against ranked opponents this season.
In the opening period the Wolfpack freshman tacked a takedown of Heil, as the two traded points, ultimately finishing the first tied at three. In the second, Jack tallied a reversal, promting a Heil escape and takedown to carry a one-point lead heading into the final period. In the third, the Cowboy sealed the victory, picking up an escape and two takedowns for the 10-8 win.
