Pairings Set for 2016 Big 12 Men?s Golf Championship

The 20th annual Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship will be contested Friday-Sunday, April 29-May 1, at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. This marks the sixth time Whispering Pines has hosted the event. The University of Texas will serve as the host institution.

First day pairings for the championship are determined by the Golfweek/Sagarin team rankings.

Action kicks off on Friday, April 29, with top-seed Texas and No. 2 seeded Oklahoma State teeing off hole number one at 8:00 a.m. CT.  At 8:22 a.m. CT, No. 5 Texas Tech and No. 6 Kansas begin on hole number 10, and at 8:45 a.m. CT No. 3 Oklahoma and 4 Baylor hit the tee box on number one. At 9:07 a.m. CT No. 7 TCU and No. 8 Kansas State begin on hole 10 while No. 9 Iowa State and No. 10 West Virginia round out the beginning of the first round at 9:30 a.m. CT from the first tee.

Texas enters the tournament ranked No. 1 nationally, with a 69.52 rating. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma also check in the top 25, at No. 6 and 20, respectively. The ‘Horns also have three individuals ranked in the top 25 with No. 2 Beau Hossler, No. 23 Gavin Hall and No. 25 Doug Ghim.

OSU and UT have combined to win 15 of the 19 previous Big 12 Championships with the Cowboys taking home nine and the Longhorns six. Oklahoma State has won 10 NCAA golf titles in program history, while Texas has earned three and Oklahoma has one.

Last year, Texas claimed the Big 12 crown at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., marking three straight titles for the Longhorns. Texas freshman Scottie Scheffler won the individual title with a score of 280.

The Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship will determine both team and individual champions. The top 10 individual finishers each season are named to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team. Five golfers shall compose a team. The lowest four scores per round from the designated five-player team will be used. Scoring will be stroke play.

The 2016 Championship will be 72 holes played over three days, 36 holes the first day and 18 holes the second and third days. The low four scores out of five over each 18 holes will determine the team championship.
