Six Big 12 hurlers remain in contention for the 2016 National Pitcher of the Year Award, presented by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
Top league teams Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech each have a pair on the latest watch list.
OSU’s Tyler Buffett and Thomas Hatch join TCU’s Luken Baker and Dalton Howard, while Hayden Howard and Davis Martin of TTU round out the league’s representatives.
All six pitchers make up the league’s top six ERA leaders for overall games.
Buffet ranks second with a 1.65 mark. In 27 games for the Pokes, he has a 6-1 record, totaling 55 strikeouts in 54.2 innings pitched. He also has eight saves on the season. Hatch is the league leader with a 1.36 ERA as the sophomore has tossed three straight complete game shutouts. He’s allowed just 13 earned runs in 86.0 innings with a 5-1 record.
Baker, a two-way player, has made it to the mound in 10 games, posting a 1.70 ERA (third in the Big 12), 3-1 record and 41 strikeouts. Fellow freshman teammate Dalton Horton is undefeated on the year at 7-0, holding opponents to a .218 average and ranking fifth in the conference with a 2.44 ERA.
For first-place Texas Tech, Hayden Howard has a 7-2 mark along with six saves over 60.2 innings pitched in 25 games. Freshman starter Davis Martin is a perfect 8-0 over 14 games for the Red Raiders, sporting a 2.24 ERA in 60.1 innings pitched.
The award, sponsored by Diamond, will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock as part of the annual Night of Champions event.
