Eugene, Ore. - The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners have advanced to the match play portion of the NCAA Golf Championship, finishing first and eighth, respectively, in the four-round stroke play portion of the tournament.
Texas shot +14 over the course of the four days to grab the top seed, while Oklahoma finished at +24 to land in the eighth and final spot. the two conference rivals will square off in the first round of match play on Tuesday from Eugene, Oregon. Oklahoma State narrowly missed the top eight cutoff, finishing 10th (+30).
The Longhorns were led by Beau Hossler who finished fifth overall (even par, 280) in the individual competition that wrapped up at the conclusion of round four. Doug Ghim (+6), Gavin Hall (+7), Scottie Scheffler (+9) and Taylor Funk (+10) also contributed to the Longhorns’ top seed, with Ghim shooting no higher than +3 (73) in any round, and the other three each recording a round at even par or better (70) over the course of the weekend.
Oklahoma is advancing to the match play portion of the tournament, which was installed in 2009, for the first time in team history. Entering the day in a tie for 14th place, the Sooners shot a 277 (-3), matching the second-best round of the tournament among all 30 squads, to surge six places into eighth with an overall 1144 (+24).
OU junior Max McGreevy and freshman Brad Dalke were the best finishers for the Sooners, claiming a share of 26th place in the individual competition with a four-round 287 (+7). McGreevy bounced back from a difficult third round to card a 66 (-4) on Monday, matching his career-low and pocketing seven birdies. Dalke also shot under-par, firing a 68 (-2) Monday, his fifth round in the 60s of this season.
TCU’s Chelso Barrett recorded the highest finish of a Big 12 individual besides Hossler, shooting +4 (284) to tie for 13th place overall.
