No. 1 Texas Leads Four Squads in Men's Golf Preseason Poll

Texas has been ranked No. 1 in the preseason Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, after receiving 16 of the 25 first place votes. Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Baylor also made the cut among the top teams in the nation.

UT, which finished the 2015-16 season as the top ranked team, comes off a second-place finish to Oregon at the 2016 Championship after losing 3-2 during the third hole of sudden death. The Longhorns captured seven tournament titles last year, including the Big 12 Conference Championship.

Also ranked in the top five is Oklahoma State, slotted to the No. 4 spot after tallying 490 points. Returning with the Cowboys is junior Stratton Nolen, who took home the 2016 Big 12 individual championship by shooting six under par (282).

With the Cowboys’ preseason ranking, the Big 12 is the only conference that can claim two teams in the top five.

No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 24 Baylor rounded out the league representation in the top 25. The Sooners ended their 2015-16 campaign at the NCAA quarterfinals last spring.

Texas Tech and TCU were also among the teams receiving votes.

Big 12 golf will be back in action September 2, when four teams will compete at the Carmel Cup, held at the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.
