The Oklahoma duo of Anastasia Webb and Maggie Nichols along with Denver’s Alexis Vasquez received Big 12 gymnastics weekly awards for the fourth week of competition.
Webb was awarded Gymnast of the Week after earning two scores of 9.9 or better to lead her to an all-around victory at the Metroplex Challenge. Webb picked up her first career all-around title with a season-high 39.550. The sophomore gymnast also boasted marks of 9.875 on vault, bars and floor and added a score of 9.925 on beam.
Nichols earned Event Specialist of the Week for her nearly perfect routine on beam. The junior received the event title on beam after scoring a 9.975 and earning a 10.0 from one judge. She also had the second highest score of the meet on bars with a 9.925.
Vasquez recorded Newcomer of the Week after earning a new career-high on beam with a score of 9.950. The freshman’s score ties the fifth-best beam score in DU history and is also the highest beam score by a freshman in program history.
This is the first career honor for Vasquez, the eighth for Webb and 18th for Nichols.
