The 2019 Big 12 Wrestling Championship is set begin on Saturday, March 9 as sessions I and II will kick off the opening day of action.
The four Big 12 member institutions (Iowa State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia) along with their eight affiliate members (Air Force, Fresno State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming) will trek to the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the prestigious neutral-site conference championship.
Defending champion Oklahoma State earned six No. 1 spots in the pre-seeds announced earlier in the week. Among the six are two-time defending 125-pound champion Nick Piccininni and 2018 heavyweight champion Derek White.
The remaining four pre-seed No. 1 spots were awarded to four wrestlers from as many institutions, rounding off the highest seeds in the pre-seed brackets.
The defending 184-pound champion, Drew Foster (Northern Iowa), and 2018 174-pound champion Taylor Lujan (Northern Iowa) were placed as No. 2 and No. 3 pre-seeds, respectively, in their individual weight classes.
The pre-seeds were voted into their positions by the leagues 12 head coaches and are subject to change. Final seeds will be confirmed at Friday’s pre-championship coaches meeting.
This is the fourth year in which the Big 12 Championship has taken place at a neutral site which makes the Big 12 Wrestling Championship the only Division I Conference Championship to be hosted away from campus.
FloWrestling will broadcast the first three sessions here, while the fourth and final session (championship finals) will be telecast by Fox Sports Regional Networks.
Sessions I and II are set to begin Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m. CT and 4 p.m. CT, respectively. The third session of competition is scheduled for a Noon CT start on Sunday, March 10, as well as the finals (Session IV), which commences at 7 p.m. CT.
