The first day of action at the 2019 Big 12 Wrestling Championship came to a close as all 10 weight class finals were set.
All 12 institutions, four member programs and eight affiliate members, competed in sessions I and II to declare the championship and consolation bouts for the wrestling championship.
In the 141-lb bracket, the biggest upset on the day occurred as un-seeded Chris Sandoval (Northern Colorado) captured a victory over 2018 Big 12 Wrestling Championship third place finisher and No. 1 seeded Josh Alber (Northern Iowa), decision by sudden victory (5-3).
The Oklahoma State Cowboys positioned themselves in first place after the first stanza of the 2019 Big 12 Wrestling Championship as seven OSU wrestlers will compete in the championship match of their respective weight classes. The Cowboys are led by back-to-back 125-lb champion Nick Piccininni and defending heavyweight champion Derek White. Both were seeded No. 1 by the coaches in the championship brackets.
OU and Northern Iowa round off the institutions that will wrestle two in the finals as No. 3 Dom Demas (141-lbs) and No. 1 Justin Thomas (157-lbs) will represent Oklahoma in the finals as No. 3 Taylor Lujan (174-lbs) and No. 2 Drew Foster (184-lbs) will do so for UNI.
Iowa State will be recognized in four separate finals matches as No. 3 Jarrett Degen (149-lbs), No. 3 Chase Straw (157-lbs), No. 1 Sam Colbray (184-lbs) and No. 2 Willie Miklus (197-lbs) battled their way into the championship match.

Action is set to begin at 12 p.m. CT with Session III as the final session of the Big 12 Wrestling Championship (Session IV) is set to commence at 7 p.m. CT. All finals matches will take place during Session IV.
