Three Big 12 Players Earn Preseason NCBWA All-America Honors

Tyler Lyons (Oklahoma State) headlines the Big 12’s three selections on the 2009 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pro-Line Athletics Preseason All-America Team.

Lyons, a junior left-handed pitcher, earned preseason first-team honors after a 12-2 season in 2008. He notched 92 strikeouts over 108.2 innings of work and completed the year with a 3.31 earned run average and second-team All-Big 12 accolades.

Aaron Senne (Missouri) and Chance Ruffin (Texas) were also named to the third team. An outfielder, Senne, returns to the Tigers’ squad after hitting .347 during his sophomore campaign. The Rochester, Minn. native added 13 homeruns and 67 runs batted in to earn a first-team all-conference nod last season.

Ruffin, the 2008 Big 12 Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-Big 12 honoree as a right-handed pitcher, compiled an 8-3 mark last year. The Austin, Texas native tallied a 1.96 ERA and recorded 82 strikeouts, helping lead the Longhorns to their third Big 12 postseason title.

Overall, the three NCBWA All-America squads featured 60 student-athletes from 46 schools.
