Shire and Ferguson Garner Gymnastics Weekly Honors

Sarah Shire (Missouri) was selected Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for the third time this season, while Megan Ferguson (Oklahoma) earned the Event Specialist of the Week. It marked the 10th career award for Shire and the first for Ferguson.

BIG 12 GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
Sarah Shire, Missouri, Sr., Columbia, Mo.
Shire grabbed her third award of the season after winning her third all-around title this year, scoring a 39.275 in the Tigers’ victory against New Hampshire (195.125-192.975). The senior also landed first place finishes on the vault (9.825), floor (9.900) and tied for the beam title (9.800). It marked the 14th career all-around win for Shire, who currently ranks 21st in the country.

Big 12 EVENT SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Megan Ferguson, Oklahoma, So., Olathe, Kan.
Ferguson captured the beam title (9.925), while setting a career high in the event as well as on floor (9.900). The sophomore is currently tied for first nationally on beam. She also posted a 9.750 on bars, helping Oklahoma (196.825) win against Nebraska and Texas Women’s University. With Ferguson’s efforts, the Sooners earned the program’s first No. 1 national ranking.
