The Texas men and women are the 2015 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Champions. It is the first time a school has swept the team titles since 2012. The Longhorn men were last team winners in 2013, while the women defended their 2014 title.
After the first day of competition at the 2015 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Lied Recreation Center, the Kansas State women lead the field while Texas is atop the men's standings.
A collection of some of the nation's best student-athletes will compete at Iowa State University this weekend at the 2015 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship. ISU is hosting the event, which starts Friday and ends Saturday, for the third consecutive year at Lied Athletic Recreation Center.
For the first time this season, two relay teams have been selected as the Big 12 Track & Field Athletes of the Week. The Baylor distance medley relay team (Mariah Kelly, Kiana Hawn, Olicia Williams, Maggie Montoya) earned the award after an impressive performance at the Alex Wilson Invitational. TCU's 4x400-meter relay squad (Kevin McClanahan, Raymond Bozmans, Sam Watts, Ronnie Baker) take home the honors on the men's side after claiming gold at the Arkansas Open.
Edward Kemboi (Iowa State) and Akela Jones (K-State) are the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week. It is the first weekly honor of Jones' career, while Kemboi earned indoor honors for the first time.
Kansas State's women's indoor track and field team is ranked No. 10 in the country, the highest the school's team has ever been ranked. Junior thrower Dani Winters is one of the many reasons for the ‘Cats rise to national prominence.
Senoj-Jay Givans (Texas) was named the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Male Athlete of the Week, while Courtney Okolo (Texas) and Cierra White (Texas Tech) shared the honor on the women's side. It is the first weekly honor of Givans' career, while Watts and Jones each earned the honors for the second time.
Akela Jones (K-State) was named the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week, while Sam Watts (TCU) and Ryan Crouser (Texas) shared the honor on the men's side. It is the sixth weekly honor of Crouser's career, while Watts and Jones earned the honors for the first time.
JaCorian Duffield (Texas Tech) and Cierra White (Texas Tech) have been selected as the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. It is the first time a school has swept the weekly awards since Feb. 12, 2014, and the first sweep for Texas Tech since May 9, 2012. It is the second Big 12 weekly award for White and the third for Duffield.
Le'Tristan Pledger (Texas Tech) and John Teeters (Oklahoma State) have been selected as the first Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week of the 2015 season. It is the second Big 12 weekly award for Pledger and the first for Teeters.
Most athletes dream of, standing atop the podium, being recognized in Sports Illustrated, and becoming a champion. Cierra White is making those dreams her reality.
