The Baylor Bears are the 2015 Big 12 Equestrian Champions, after defeating Kansas State, 11-8 on Saturday at Turning Point Ranch in Springtown, Texas.
The Baylor Bears and the Kansas State Wildcats will compete for the 2015 Big 12 Equestrian Championship on Saturday at Turning Point Ranch in Springtown, Texas. Baylor defeated in-state rival TCU, 14-6 in Friday's semifinal action while K-State pulled off a 10-8 win over defending conference champion Oklahoma State.
For the first time in school history, the Baylor equestrian team will be the No. 1 seed at the Big 12 Equestrian Championship. The event is scheduled to take place March 27-28 at Turning Point Ranch in Springtown, Texas. TCU will host the championship for the first time since joining the league.
A total of 57 student-athletes have been named to the 2015 Academic All-Big 12 Equestrian Team.
Big 12 Rider of the Month honors for February have been announced, as voted on by the league's coaches. In Equitation on the Flat, Kari Kancock (TCU) was named Rider of the Month, while teammate Megan McMullen was honored in the Horsemanship discipline. Sam Schaefer (Baylor) won the honor for Equitation over Fences. Katy Krshka (Oklahoma State) is the Rider of the Month for Reigning.
Five equestrian student-athletes were recognized with Big 12 Rider of the Month honors for competition during the month of November.
Six equestrian student-athletes were recognized with Big 12 Rider of the Month awards for competition during the month of October. In the Equitation on the Flat event, Katie Jones (Oklahoma State) was named Rider of the Month, while Samantha Schaefer (Baylor) and Kaitlin Perry (TCU) were honored in the Equitation over Fences discipline. In Western, Rachel Nankervis (Baylor) and Paris Nottingham were named Horsemanship Riders of the Month. The Reining honor went to Katie Gray (TCU)
All four Big 12 Equestrian programs will begin the 2014-15 season ranked in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association's Preseason Top 10.
