The Baylor Bears women's tennis team has been unanimously selected to claim the Big 12 regular season championship by a vote of the league's head coaches. It is the third time in the last four years that BU has been the unanimous Big 12 favorites.
The 2015 ITA All-Tournament Team features five Big 12 student-athletes, including the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, Alex Ghilea of Oklahoma (No. 5 singles). Also garnering All-Tournament Team honors were Oklahoma's Axel Alvarez (No. 2 singles) and Dane Webb (No. 3 singles), as well as the Baylor duo of Vince Schneider and Felipe Rios (No. 3 doubles).
Frankfort, Germany, native Julian Lenz grew up with many tennis connections to Waco, Texas.
Danielle Lund McNamara, a former Yale head women's tennis coach who led the Bulldogs to four NCAA tournament appearances and four Ivy League titles, has been named the head women's tennis coach at The University of Texas. The announcement was made Wednesday by UT Women's Athletics Director Chris Plonsky. McNamara replaces Patty Fendick-McCain, who announced her retirement from college coaching in June after nine seasons with the Longhorns.
The 2014 ITA Division I preseason rankings are out, and the Big 12 is once again well represented. 30 student-athletes from the conference received national rankings in singles, along with seven doubles teams.
