OSU Women's Golf Falls Just Short At NCAA Championship

The Oklahoma State women's golf team shot the second-best four-round score at the NCAA Championship in school history, but fell just short of advancing to match play after a final round 4-over 292.

Cowgirls Advance at NCAA Golf Championship

The Oklahoma State women's golf team advanced to the next round at the NCAA Championship after posting a nine-over par 297 in the third round at Eugene Country Club. After Sunday's third round, the field was whittled down to the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team for one additional day of stroke play to determine the 72-hole stroke play individual champion, as well as the top eight teams for match-play competition. The top eight teams then compete in match play for the championship. The Cowgirls survived the cut, and are tied for 10th place at 12-over 876. UCLA leads the field at 4-under 860. The remaining 15 teams will play 18 holes of stroke play competition on Monday, which will air on the Golf Channel from 6-9 p.m. CT. After that round, the NCAA individual champion will be crowned and the top eight teams will advance to the match play portion of the event to determine the team champion. The Cowgirls are three shots back of a tie for eighth place at +9. OSU has now carded rounds of 284-295-297 to mark just the third time in school history OSU has shot sub-300 in each of its first three rounds at the NCAA Championship. Emma Broze posted the biggest highlight of the day for the Cowgirls on Sunday. The sophomore aced the par-3 11th, which is the first hole-in-one in competition by the Cowgirls this season. Cowgirl Linnea Johansson is the lone OSU golfer currently under par for the tournament at -1, 12 shots back of Virginia Elena Carta of Duke (-13). The Texas Longhorns and Baylor's Laura Lonardi also competed in the Championship. Texas finished 23rd overall at +33 and Lonardi tied for 27th individually at +2.

OSU and UT Advance to Womenís NCAA Golf Championship

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls and Texas Longhorns have advanced to the Women's NCAA Golf Championship by virtue of top 6 finishes in their respective regional tournaments. Baylor's Laura Lonardi also qualified for the Championship as an individual, as she finished as the top individual on a non-qualifying team in the Bryan, Texas Regional (top three qualify). Lonardi shot -4 (212) en route to qualifying. The Big 12 Champion Cowgirls earned a third place finish in the Shoal Creek, Alabama Regional with a +43 (907). Linnea Johansson led the squad with a +9 (225), tie-for ninth place finish. The ĎHorns advance to the Championship thanks to a sixth place (+15, 879) finish at the Bryan Regional. UT shot a second round 284 (-4) to carry themselves on to the NCAA Championship. Iowa State, TCU and Texas Tech also competed in regional play, finishing tied for 13th, 13th and tied for ninth, respectively in each of their regions. Kansas's Yupaporn Kawinpakorn and Pornvipa Sakdee also competed as individuals, finishing tied for 1th and tied for 43rd, in the Shoal Creek Regional. OU's Hannah Wood finished one shot out from qualifying in the Bryan Regional, shooting -1 (215). K-State's Madison Talley competed individually in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Regional, shooting even-par (216) to tie for 12th. The NCAA Championship will be held May 20-25 at Eugene County Club in Eugene, Oregon, hosted by the University of Oregon. The final three days of the championship will be televised live by the Golf Channel.
