Cowgirls Advance at NCAA Golf Championship

The Oklahoma State women's golf team advanced to the next round at the NCAA Championship after posting a nine-over par 297 in the third round at Eugene Country Club. After Sunday's third round, the field was whittled down to the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team for one additional day of stroke play to determine the 72-hole stroke play individual champion, as well as the top eight teams for match-play competition. The top eight teams then compete in match play for the championship. The Cowgirls survived the cut, and are tied for 10th place at 12-over 876. UCLA leads the field at 4-under 860. The remaining 15 teams will play 18 holes of stroke play competition on Monday, which will air on the Golf Channel from 6-9 p.m. CT. After that round, the NCAA individual champion will be crowned and the top eight teams will advance to the match play portion of the event to determine the team champion. The Cowgirls are three shots back of a tie for eighth place at +9. OSU has now carded rounds of 284-295-297 to mark just the third time in school history OSU has shot sub-300 in each of its first three rounds at the NCAA Championship. Emma Broze posted the biggest highlight of the day for the Cowgirls on Sunday. The sophomore aced the par-3 11th, which is the first hole-in-one in competition by the Cowgirls this season. Cowgirl Linnea Johansson is the lone OSU golfer currently under par for the tournament at -1, 12 shots back of Virginia Elena Carta of Duke (-13). The Texas Longhorns and Baylor's Laura Lonardi also competed in the Championship. Texas finished 23rd overall at +33 and Lonardi tied for 27th individually at +2.
