On the second day of the Big 12 Tennis Championship, six total teams advanced to the semifinals on Saturday. Oklahoma and Baylor advanced on the men’s side, while Oklahoma State, Kansas, TCU and Texas Tech moved through on the women’s side.
In the men’s semifinals, the Bears will meet top-seeded Texas Tech, as the Sooners will tangle with TCU. In the women’s semifinals, Oklahoma State will face off with Kansas, as TCU is set to meet Texas Tech.
This marks the first time since 2002 the Kansas women’s tennis team has advanced to the championship semifinals. On the other hand, the Baylor men’s team has advanced to 19-straight championship semifinals.
In the two morning matches, Oklahoma dispatched Texas, 4-1, while Baylor upset Oklahoma State, 4-2. Due to poor weather conditions, both men’s matches were played inside the Greenwood Tennis Center.
During the first women’s match of the day, top-seeded Oklahoma State made quick work of the Wildcats, defeating them by the score 4-0.
After a brief weather delay, the Kansas and Baylor women’s teams took to the court for an ultra-competitive match. The Jayhawks pulled away for a late lead, taking the match, 4-2. The Red Raiders and Longhorns followed with a classic of their own, battling to a 3-3 tie, before moving to the doubles point. TTU triumphed on the doubles point, giving Tech the 4-3 victory.
In the final match of the evening, TCU and Oklahoma met, as the Horned Frogs ultimately walked away with a 4-1 victory.
The men’s semifinal matches will both tip off at Noon, while the women’s will start at 3 p.m. All matches will take place at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State.
