Texas Men and Baylor Women Crowned Big 12 Tennis Champions

AUSTIN, Texas - The top-seeded Texas men and No. 1 Baylor women claimed the 2010 Big 12 Tennis Championship titles on Sunday at Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.

The Longhorns captured their fourth post-season Big 12 Conference crown (1997, '99, 2006, ‘10), while it marked the fifth consecutive title for the Bears (2006-10).

The men’s championship concluded first as the Horns outlasted Texas A&M in a close 4-3 battle that came down to the final match.

After losing the doubles point to the Aggies, Texas took the first two singles wins as No. 10 Dimitar Kutrovsky defeated TAMU's No. 7 Austin Krajicek (6-3, 6-2) at No. 1 and Josh Zavala swept straight sets at No. 5 singles. Jean Andersen then added a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles.

With the teams tied at 3-3, Texas' Ed Corrie bested Jeff Dadamo in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 6-3) to clinch the crown for the Horns.

The Baylor women posted a 4-0 victory over the Longhorn women. UT and BU have battled in the championship game for the sixth consecutive year. The Bears opened by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 2.

In singles action, BU's Jelena Stanivuk took straight sets (6-1, 6-2) at No. 5 singles and Csilla Borsanyi posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4.

Nina Secerbegovic, ranked 19th nationally, sealed Baylor's championship title at No. 2 singles, winning in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-3).

Most Outstanding Performer awards were presented at the conclusion of the championship. UT’s Andersen earned the men’s honor, after winning a doubles match in the finals and going 2-0 at No. 4 singles at the championship. On the women’s side, Borsanyi won her second-straight outstanding performer accolade. She went 2-0 in doubles and undefeated in her three singles matches during the tournament.
