Texas A&M reached their third Big 12 championship game in four
years as they defeated the Missouri Tigers 4-1 in the semifinals Friday
night at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio.
Missouri scored their lone goal when Kristsin Andrighetto led
Texas A&M's Kristin Arnold out of the goal before passing to an
open Alysha Bonnick who tapped the ball into the back of the net in the
14th minute.
The Aggies rebounded quickly when Amber Gnatzig headed in an
Alison Martino corner kick to equalize the score ten minutes later.
A&M extended their lead when Rachel Shipley arced the ball into the
top left corner of the net from about 30 yards out to give the Aggies a
2-1 advantage at the 31 minute mark.
Six minutes later, A&M's Ashlee Pistorius' penalty kick
bounced off the top of the cross bar and rebounded to Amy Berand who
was able to launch the ball into the top left corner just above Mallory
Forst's hands to give the Aggies a two-goal advantage.
In the second half, A&M's Elisabeth Jones scored off a
Missouri defensive error as Lindsay McCoy tried to send the ball back
to the keeper but Jones caught up with her and was able to put the ball
in a wide open net.
A&M will face the winner of the Texas/Oklahoma State game in the Big 12 Championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
