Big 12 Co-Offensive Players of the Week
Josh Freeman, Kansas State, QB, Jr., Kansas City, Mo.
Josh Freeman accounted for five touchdowns, including three through the air, and 232 (18-of-24) passing yards in Kansas State’s win over North Texas. The five touchdowns tied his career high as he became the first Wildcat since Michael Bishop in 1997 to account for five touchdowns in a season opener. His three touchdown passes were one shy of the school single-game record and also upped his current streak of consecutive games with a TD pass to 12. He has thrown two or more touchdown passes in his last four games.
Colt McCoy, Texas, QB, Jr., Tuscola, Texas
Colt McCoy completed 24 of 29 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 103 yards and another score in leading Texas to its win over Florida Atlantic. It marked the second time in his career that he passed for 200 yards and rushed for 100 in a game, joining Vince Young as the only UT quarterbacks to accomplish the feat more than once. McCoy completed his first 13 passes, setting a school record for consecutive pass completions in a game. He accounted for 325 yards and four scores on the day.
Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Stryker Sulak, Missouri, DE, Sr., Rockdale, Texas
Stryker Sulak was credited with five tackles for loss, including three quarterback sacks, and made eight total tackles in Missouri’s win over Illinois. The senior defense end also forced a fumble and blocked an extra point. His three QB sacks were just one shy of the MU single-game record and moved him into 10th place on the school’s career quarterback sacks list with 15.
Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week
Jeremy Maclin, Missouri, KR/PR/WR, So., Kirkwood, Mo.
Jeremy Maclin became the second player in Mizzou history to record two career kickoff returns for touchdown with his second quarter 99-yard return against Illinois. He had 201 return yards in the game, including 145 yards on three kickoff returns (48.33 avg.) and 56 yards on four punt returns (14.00 avg.). Maclin now has four combined kick/punt return TDs in two years at Mizzou, the most in Tiger history. He ended the day with 234 all-purpose yards, including four receptions for 31 yards.
