Clean Sweep For Big 12 As No. 4 Sooners, No. 6 Tigers Roll

Texas 42, UTEP 13
Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy had four touchdown passes as No. 10 Texas controlled the game starting late in the first quarter. The Miners were still in the game, trailing 28-13, early in the fourth quarter. But the Longhorns scored two touchdowns in 11 seconds to put the game away. McCoy passed 15 yards to Jordan Shipley for a touchdown and then Roddrick Muckelroy returned a fumble for a 25-yard TD that made it 42-13. Read Complete Recap

Texas Tech 35, Nevada 29
The 12th-ranked Red Raiders used two big scoring plays and a huge break on an instant replay ruling to win at Reno. Eric Morris scored on an 86-yard punt return for Texas Tech's first score (Morris also scored on a 13-yard run). Quarterback Graham Harrell found Michael Crabtree for an 82-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter to give the Red Raiders a 28-12 lead. In the third quarter, it appeared that Nevada had taken the lead but an instant replay review ruled that instead of scoring on a three-yard run, Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick had fumbled the ball into the end zone.

Oklahoma State 56, Houston 37
The Cowboys wiped out a 14-6 halftime deficit by scoring on their first five second-half possessions. Oklahoma State finished with 699 yards of total offense, the second-best in school history. Receiver Dez Bryant had 236 yards receiving and three touchdowns plus a 71-yard punt return for a TD. Kendall hunter gained 210 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns as the Cowboys played their first home game in refurbished Boone Pickens Stadium.

Kansas State 69, Montana State 10
Deuces were wild for the Wildcats. Quarterback Josh Freeman passed for two touchdowns, ran for two and Kansas State turned two blocked punts into touchdowns. Adrian Stryker and Courtney Herndon blocked punts. Ernie Pierce recovered the first for a TD, Chris Carney turned the second block into six points. A botched punt snap set up a one-yard by Freeman for another touchdown.

Kansas 29, Louisiana Tech 0
Quarterack Todd Reesing and wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe each had career nights to go along with a stellar defensive effort. Reesing completed 32 of 38 passes for a career-high 412 yards and three touchowns. Briscoe, whose 48-yard catch and run for a score helped put the victory away, had seven catches for a career-high 146 yards. Kansas' defense has yet to allow a touchdown this season.

Missouri 52, Southeast Missouri State 3
In what was little more than a scrimmage, the sixth-ranked Tigers roared to a 42-point lead in the first 24 minutes of the game. Missouri scored on its first five possessions. Quarterback Chase Daniel was 16-for-17 for 245 yards and three touchdowns. Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon returned an interception for a touchdown for the second consecutive game.

Baylor 51, Northwestern State 6
Robert Griffin's debut as the Bears' starting quarterback was practically perfect. The freshman completed 15 of 19 passes for 294 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a TD. Jay Finley had three rushing touchdowns; two came on runs of 40 and 35 yards.

Iowa State 48, Kent State 28
The Cyclones were opportunistic. Despite being out-gained, Iowa State turned a blocked punt and two fumbles into touchdowns to start the season 2-0. Kent State defeated Iowa State in the 2007 season opener. The Cyclones scored three straight touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead in the first quarter.

Texas A&M 28, New Mexico 22
The Aggies gave Mike Sherman his first victory as head coach with a gritty performance. Quarterback Stephen McGee suffered a sprained shoulder on A&M's first possession and running back Mike Goodson sprained his right knee in the second quarter (he returned briefly in the second half). Sophomore Jerrod Johnson took over for McGee and completed 10 of 19 passes for 124 yards and three touchdowns. The Aggies' defense came up with several big plays, including Jordan Peterson's 48-yard interception return that gave A&M a 7-0 lead.

Oklahoma 52, Cincinnati 26
The fourth-ranked Sooners built a quick 14-0 lead, traded touchdowns for about two quarters and then blew the game open with a 24-0 blitz in the second half. Sophomore quarterback Sam Bradford was intercepted twice but had a career-high 395 yards and five touchdown passes. Ryan Broyles caught seven passes for 141 yards, setting a school record for most receiving yards by a freshman.

Colorado 31, Eastern Washington 24
Just over two years ago in Dan Hawkins' first game as coach, the Buffaloes were stunned at Folsom Field by Montana State of the Big Sky Conference. It took a 17-point fourth quarter to avoid a replay. Colorado trailed 24-17 with four minutes remaining. But a five-play, 57-yard drive capped by Cody Hawkins' two-yard TD pass to Jake Behrens tied it at 24 with 2:05 remaining. On the Eagles' ensuing possession, Cha'pelle Brown intercepted a Matt Nichols and returned it 29 yards for the winning score.

Nebraska 35, San Jose State 12
The Cornhuskers were out-gained in total offense (353 to 315) and San Jose State's kicking game missed an extra point and two field goals. But an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Niles Paul and nose tackle Ndamukong Suh's 49-yard interception return for TD helped Nebraska start 2-0 under first-year coach Bo Pelini.
