Missouri 42, Buffalo 21
Chase Daniel continued his amazing accuracy, helping the fifth-ranked Tigers (4-0) overcame turnovers and mistakes Saturday in Columbia. Daniel set a Big 12 record by completing 20 consecutive passes. He finished 36 of 43 for a career-high 439 yards and two touchdowns. Buffalo (2-2, coached by former Nebraska coach Turner Gill, trailed 27-21 midway through the third quarter before Missouri pulled away.
Miami (Fla.) 41, Texas A&M 23
The Aggies were overwhelmed by a third quarter flurry that lifted the Hurricanes to a commanding victory at Kyle Field Saturday. Miami led 24-10 at halftime but put the game away with 17 points in a 1:01 span. A field goal, an interception that led to a touchdown and a fumble that set up another touchdown put the Aggies in a 41-10 hole with 5:43 remaining in the third quarter. It was Texas A&M's worst loss in a non-conference game since losing to Alabama 30-10 in 1988.
Kansas 38, Sam Houston State 14
Quarterback Todd Reesing continued his stellar play to lead the Jayhawks to their victory Saturday in Lawerence. Reesing threw for 356 yards and two touchdowns. He is Kansas' career leader in TD passes with 53. Kansas had 161 yards rushing on 48 carries against its Division I-AA foe; that 3.4 average per carry is an indication the Jayhawks' running game still has problems. Sam Houston State quarterback Rhett Bomar, who started his career at Oklahoma, had 340 yards passing but was intercepted three times.
Texas 52, Rice 10
Colt McCoy's four touchdown passes made him the school's career leader and led the Longhorns to a 52-10 victory over the Owls (2-2) in Austin Saturday night. McCoy's 62 career TD passes surpassed Major Applewhite's record of 60. McCoy had 329 yards passing and also led No. 7 Texas (4-0) in rushing with 83 yards on eight attempts. Rice had 301 yards passing against the Longhorns, who are 98th nationally in pass defense, but allowed seven sacks by UT.
Texas Tech 56, Massachusetts 14
The 11th-ranked Red Raiders (4-0) had little problem defeating the Division I-AA Minutemen Saturday night in Lubbock. Graham Harrell was 27 of 34 for 322 yards and four touchdowns. Shannon Woods had 108 yards rushing with touchdown runs of 2, 38 and 18 yards. Texas Tech has a week off before opening conference play at Kansas State on Oct. 4.
UNLV 34, Iowa State 31 (OT)
The Cyclones battled back from a 21-0 halftime deficit only to see the Rebels win in the first extra period. Iowa State tied the game with three seconds remaining when Austen Arnaud hit R.J. Summerall with a 28-yard scoring pass. The Cyclones had the first possession in OT but could only manage a 37-yard field goal by Grant Mahoney. Omar Clayton hit Phillip Payne with a 25-yard TD pass on UNLV's first play in overtime to give UNLV its second-consecutive overtime victory.
Connecticut 31, Baylor 28
The Bears pushed the Huskies to the final minutes before losing on the road Friday night. Connecticut (4-0) won when tailback Donald Brown (150 yards) scored on three-yard run with just over six minutes remaining. Baylor (2-2) freshman quarterback Robert Griffin, who had three TD passes and ran for a touchdown, drove the Bears to the UConn 39 before the drive ended on downs.
Colorado 17, West Virginia 14 (OT)
The Buffaloes scored touchdowns on their first two possessions didn't score again until Aric Goodman's game-winning 25-yard field goal gave Colorado a 3-0 start. The 21st-ranked Mountaineers got the first possession in overtime Thursday night but Patrick McAfee's 23-yard field goal boinked off the left upright. Colorado quarterback Cody Hawkins threw for two touchdowns and freshman running back Rodney Stewart gained for 166 yards.
Louisville 38, Kansas State 29
The Wildcats (2-1) had allowed 396 yards in total offense in their first two victories but they found that facing the Cardinals' attack was a new experience Wednesday night. With freshman running back Victor Anderson (176 yards and three TD runs) leading the way, Louisville totaled 577 yards. Kansas State quarterback Josh Freeman threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns but lost a fumble and threw two interceptions.
