For the second straight week Destinee Hooker and Michelle Kocher from Texas have been named the Big 12 Volleyball Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the matches of Sept. 29-Oct. 5. Anna Breyfogle (Baylor) is receiving the fourth Defensive Player of the Week award of her career, while Hooker claims her seventh honor overall.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Destinee Hooker, Texas, OH, Jr., 6-4, San Antonio, Texas/Southwest
In Big 12 victories at Oklahoma and over No. 17 Kansas State, Hooker averaged 5.57 points and 5.00 kills while hitting at a .351 clip to lead the Longhorns’ offense. The San Antonio, Texas native also contributed 1.86 digs and 0.86 blocks per set on the week.

At OU, Hooker posted a match-high 19 kills along with five digs and two blocks. She recorded a .302 attack percentage in No. 3 UT’s 3-1 win. The junior All-American then tallied 16 kills on .412 hitting and committed just two hitting errors in the sweep of the Wildcats on Saturday. Hooker also added eight digs, four blocks and a service ace.

Anna Breyfogle, Baylor, MB, Jr., 6-0, Buda, Texas/Hays
Breyfogle compiled a 10-block, two-dig outing in a 3-0 win against Colorado on Wednesday. The Baylor defense sparked by Breyfogle’s performance held the Buffs to a -.083 hitting mark. It was the first time since 2005 a Big 12 opponent was held to a negative attack percentage in conference action. After also registering 10 kills, it marked Breyfogle’s second double-double of the season. She did not record any errors in the match en route to producing a .769 hitting percentage.

Michelle Kocher, Texas, S, Fr., 5-10, Wheaton, Ill./St. Francis
Kocher led the UT offense to a .376 hitting percentage in both of its wins last week. Individually, she averaged 13.57 assists and 2.71 digs. In Wednesday’s victory at OU, she amassed a career-high 57 assists, seven digs, a block assist and a kill. Kocher followed that performance with 38 assists and 12 digs versus KSU while guiding the Longhorns to a .482 hitting percentage.
