Take a picture of the first Bowl Championship Series standings that were released Sunday. The order of the top 10 teams is sure to change.
Following its dominating victory over Missouri Saturday night, Texas debuted as the No. 1 team in the BCS standings. The Longhorns were one of four Big 12 teams in the top 10. Oklahoma debuted at No. 4, Oklahoma State was No. 6 and Texas Tech was No. 8.
The top 10, though, figures to undergo significant changes in the next two weeks.
Saturday, Oklahoma State plays at Texas and No. 3 Penn State visits No. 9 Ohio State. On Nov. 1, Texas travels to play Texas Tech while No. 7 Georgia and No. 10 Florida square off in Jacksonville. On Nov. 8, Oklahoma State is at Texas Tech.
No. 2 Alabama and No. 5 USC are the only top 10 teams that don't have to face a BCS top 10 team the rest of the way.
Oklahoma State, which is No. 8 in both human polls used in the BCS standings, is No. 3 in the computer rankings. Based on that, the Cowboys are in position to control their own destiny; victories at Texas and Texas Tech should attact the attention of the voters and could put Oklahoma State near the top of the BCS standings.
Texas was a rock-solid No. 1 in the BCS standings. The Longhorns are No. 1 in both human polls and in all six computers used to decide the rankings. Alabama is No. 2 in both human polls and the computers.
The BCS standings are computed using a formula made up of votes in the USA Today/Coaches and Harris Interactive polls and six computer rankings. Each counts for one-third of the formula. The highest and lowest computer rankings for each team are discarded before the final standings are figured.
In the coaches poll, Oklahoma was No. 5, Texas Tech No. 6, Oklahoma State No. 8, Missouri No. 16 and Kansas No. 18.
Texas is an overwhelming No. 1 in the coaches poll and the Harris Poll, and rated first in each of the six computer rankings, giving the Longhorns a BCS grade of .998 out of 1.000.
Alabama is second across the board, behind Texas in the polls and the computers. The Crimson Tide have a BCS average of .949, which bodes well for Alabama being in control of its destiny. The Tide will be tough to catch from behind if it can stay unbeaten.
