Morgan Marlborough (Nebraska), Crystal Wagner (Missouri) and Hannah Higgins (Texas) were named the Big 12 Soccer Players of the Week for games played from Oct. 16-18, the conference office announced. Marlborough earned the offensive and newcomer award earlier this season. Wagner and Higgins were both recognized for the first times in their career.

Offensive Player of the Week
Morgan Marlborough, Nebraska, F, Fr., Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Marlborough netted two goals, including the gamewinner, to score four points in Nebraska’s 2-1 victory over No. 14 Texas A&M. She has now recorded seven goals in seven Big 12 games and totaled seven muliple-goal games this season. The freshman forward leads the nation and the Big 12 in scoring and points with 21 goals for 46 points. Marlborough is tied for fourth on the Huskers’ all-time top 10 for single-season goals.      

Defensive Player of the Week
Crystal Wagner, Missouri, D, Sr., Houston, Texas
Wagner played in all 191 minutes of action over the weekend in Missouri’s two road victories. Wagner anchored a Tigers’ defense that defeated Baylor in a 5-0 shutout, holding the Bears to just five shots and one shot on goal. She followed with another defensive performance on Sunday as Mizzou shut out Oklahoma 1-0 in double overtime, allowing only four shots on goal. Wagner was matched up against OU’s Whitney Palmer, who ranked eigth nationally in goals per game, and held her scoreless.

Newcomer of the Week
Hannah Higgins, Texas, F, Fr., Flower Mound, Texas
Higgins contributed a goal and an assist for three points in Texas’ 2-1 victory over Nebraska. She made an assist in the Longhorns’ first goal of the game and then scored the gamewinning goal with seven minutes remaining. She put two goals on frame for a .500 shot percentage. She is currently second on the team with three goals, including two gamewinners, and seven points.
