Junior guards LaceDarius Dunn (Baylor) and David Tairu (Texas Tech) have been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Week for November 9-15 in voting by a panel of media covering the conference.  It is the first player honor for Dunn after he won top rookie twice during the 2007-08 season and the first recognition for Tairu.

Dunn averaged 30.5 points as Baylor won its first two games of the season.   The junior guard started the year with a game-high 32 points in the Bears’ 86-58 win over Norfolk State.  It was the third 30-point outing of his career.  He followed with a game-high 29 points, including six 3-point field goals, in BU’s 71-69 victory over Hartford.  In two outings, Dunn shot 48.8 percent (21-of-43) from the field, including 50 percent (10-of-20) from 3-point range.  He also hit 9-of-10 (.900) shots from the free throw line.  Dunn has scored in double figures in each of his last 15 contests dating back to last season and has made at least one 3-pointer in 14 straight games. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
David Tairu, Texas Tech, G, Jr., 6-3, 180, Temple Hills, Md./Philadelphia Lutheran Prep/South Plains College
Tairu was named the MVP of the Duel in the Desert Tournament as the Red Raiders started the season with a 3-0 record.  The junior guard led the team in scoring in two of three contests, averaging 14.0 points for the weekend.  He started all three games, connecting on 14-of-27 (.519) shots from the field.  He was also 5-of-9 (.556) from the floor and 9-of-11 (.818) from the charity stripe, while adding three assists and three steals.  Tairu’s accolade marks just the sixth time in Big 12 history a Tech player has won rookie honors.
