Ndamukong Suh and Russell Okung Tabbed Finalists For 2009 Outland Trophy

Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska) and Russell Okung (Oklahoma State) were named two of the three finalists for the 64th Outland Tropy, which is awarded to the best interior lineman in college football by the Football Writers Association of America.

Suh, a 6-4, 300-pound senior defensive tackle, leads the Huskers in tackles with 65 total, 35 unassisted. The Portland, Ore. native has posted 15 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, an interception, 10 pass break-ups, 20 quarterback hurries and three blocked kicks. Suh has helped anchor a Nebraska defense that ranks eighth nationally in total defense and 14th in rush defense. The Cornhuskers (8-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12) head into their regular-season finale at Colorado on Nov. 27 before the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship on Dec. 5.

Okung, a 6-5, 300-pound senior offensive tackle, will make his 46th consecutive start for the Cowboys in their final game of the regular season. The Houston, Texas native has helped Oklahoma State (9-2 overall, 6-1 Big 12) average 203.5 yards per game on the ground, which leads the Big 12 and ranks 16th in the nation. Okung has also contributed to an offensive line that ranks fourth nationally in sacks allowed (.73).

The winner of the Outland Trophy will be announced on the evening of Dec. 10 during "The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show" at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The show, hosted by ESPN's Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit, airs from 6-8 p.m. CT on ESPN.

The Outland Trophy, which has been awarded annually by the FWAA since 1946, is named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at Pennsylvania at the turn of the century. The Outland Trophy is the third oldest award in major college football behind the Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award.
