Big 12 Sports.com CorrespondentThe big individual award - the Heisman Trophy - will be announced Saturday night but two Big 12 Conference players were busy accepting honors at the ESPN College Football Awards show in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and Texas quarterback Colt McCoy - whose next stop is New York City for the Heisman announcement - were busy making acceptance speeches Thursday night.
McCoy added to his trophy case by winning three times. He won the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and was also presented with two trophies that go to the nation's outstanding player - the Walter Camp Award and the Maxwell Award. McCoy also won the Camp Award last season.
Suh, who won the Bronko Nagurski and Lombardi awards earlier this week, picked up the Outland Trophy (top interior linemen) and Bednarik Award (top defensive player).
Since the inception of the Big 12 in 1996, the Big 12 has had seven O'Brien winners including five in the last seven seasons.
Two of McCoy's teammates - safety Earl Thomas and wide receiver Jordan Shipley - were finalists for the Thorpe Award (defensive backs) and Biletnikoff Award (wide receiver). Neither won in their category.
Suh is the ninth Nebraska player to win the Outland and the first since Aaron Taylor in 1997. No school has won more Outland Trophies than Nebraska. Oklahoma State offensive tackle Russell Okung was also a finalist for the Outland.
McCoy is the third O'Brien Winner from Texas - Earl Campbell, the inaugural winner of the O'Brien Memorial Trophy (1977), and Vince Young (2005). Campbell won the award before it was changed to honor quarterbacks.
Oklahoma offensive tackle Trent Williams and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy were named to the Walter Camp All-America team along with McCoy, Shipley, Okung, Suh and Thomas.
