The men's college basketball season might have a lighter schedule this week with many schools in final exams, but two Big 12 coaches are taking advantage of the ‘down time’ to head to ESPN headquarters to discuss the season on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Greg McDermott of Iowa State and Kansas State’s Frank Martin will be on the Bristol, Conn. campus to talk about their teams and the strong performance of the Big 12 so far in the 2009-10 campaign. Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe, a member of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Committee, will also accompany them to ESPN as part of the trip.
Both coaches will go through various interviews between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. CT as part of a process known as a “Car Wash”. The interviews and discussions will work through different platforms at ESPN, including shows that are broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Among the interviews, each coach will sit down to record a segment that will air as part of ESPN’s regular college basketball coverage. In addition, each coach will participate in interviews with select personalities from ESPN.com, including national correspondent Andy Katz.
Kansas State has started the year with a 9-1 record, moving into the top 25 on Monday for the first time this season. The Wildcats have won six in a row and have defeated two nationally-ranked non-conference opponents in the same season for the first time since 1958-59. Iowa State has won seven of its first 10 games and is coming off an 81-71 victory over in-state rival Iowa. The Cyclones are led by one of the nation’s top players in forward Craig Brackins. The junior has led ISU in scoring in four of the past five contests, including a 28-point effort over the Hawkeyes.
Both squads will play again this weekend. K-State travels to Mobile to face Alabama on Saturday. Iowa State hosts Bradley at Hilton Coliseum on Sunday.
