Big 12 Lands Four Players On Baseball America Preseason All-America Team

Junior Tony Thompson (Kansas) and sophomore Taylor Jungmann (Texas) have been named to the Baseball America Preseason All-America Second Team. Fellow Longhorns Cameron Rupp and Brandon Workman were also honored on third team.

Thompson finished last season as the winner of the Big 12’s triple crown, leading the conference in batting average (.389), home runs (21) and RBI (82). The third baseman was also a member of the Louisville Slugger preseason first team and the NCBWA second team.

Jungmann’s freshman campaign included an 11-3 record with a 2.00 ERA, fanning 101 batters and walked just 35 in 94.2 innings. He also went 5-0 in the postseason, posting a 3-0 mark with a 0.59 ERA at the College World Series. The right-handed hurler also earned a NCBWA and Louisville Slugger preseason first-team selection.

Junior pitcher Workman had 3.50 ERA with 80 strikeouts in 72 innings of work. He pitched the 21st no-hitter in the history of Texas baseball against Penn State during the second weekend of the 2009 season.

Rupp batted .292 with 11 home runs and 46 RBI last season. The junior catcher also earned all-tournament honors at the College World Series, hitting .333 with one double, three home runs and six RBI.

Big 12 baseball starts on Feb. 19 with nine teams in action.
