Longhorn Men and Aggie Women Crowned Conference Champions

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas men’s and Texas A&M women’s squads walked away with team titles at the 2010 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Student Recreation Center in College Station. The Longhorn men have won all 14 conference championships to date, while A&M earned their fourth title (2007-08, ‘09).

Texas A&M took both Swim Coach of the Meet honors with men’s head coach Jay Holmes earning his second award and women’s coach Steve Bultman notching his seventh. Dive Coach of the Year honors went to Jay Lerew (TAMU) on the women’s side and Matt Scoggin (UT) and Lerew in men’s competition.

Texas swept the Newcomer of the Meet awards as freshmen Austin Surhoff and Laura Sogar each took home the honor. Meanwhile, senior Ricky Berens received his second Swimmer of the Meet honor after his top finishes in two events individually and contributing to two winning relays. On the women’s side, Aggie senior Julia Wilkinson earned Swimmer of the Meet after capturing her 20th overall conference title, the most of any female student-athlete in Big 12 history. Eight of Wilkinson’s championships were individual titles.

A&M junior Jaele Patrick earned Diver of the Meet honors after sweeping while UT’s Drew Livingston and A&M’s Grant Nel shared Diver of the Meet honors.
