Baylor women's basketball player Brittney Griner has been nominated for an ESPY in the category of Best Breakthrough Athlete. Also nominated for the award are the Tennessee Titans' Chris Johnson, Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals and Kentucky basketball player John Wall.
The 6-8 post set an NCAA blocked shots record as a freshman with 223. In addition, she recorded four dunks including two in one game. The Houston native averaged 18.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.4 blocks a contest en route to attaining All-American status. She was named Freshman of the Year by the USBWA and was also selected as the Big 12 Conference's Freshman of the Year, Co-Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-Big 12 first team, All-Defensive team and All-Freshman team.
The 2010 ESPYS, which are set for July 14 in Los Angeles, will be hosted by Seth Meyers of "Saturday Night Live" and televised live at 8 p.m. (CT) on ESPN.
