Five From Big 12 Named to Baseball America Freshman All-America Team

Five Big 12 student-athletes have earned 2010 Baseball America Freshman All-America Team honors, including Big 12 Freshman of the Year Barrett Barnes (Texas Tech).

Outfielders Logan Vick (Baylor) and Max White (Oklahoma) along with Texas A&M starting pitcher Michael Wacha join Barnes, a first baseman, on the first team.

During Barnes' rookie campaign, he led the Big 12 in runs scored in league contests with 34 (1.26 per game). The Sugarland, Texas-infielder finished Big 12 play with a .352 batting average, the highest mark by a freshman in the league this season. Barnes was also the only freshman to be named Big 12 Player of the Week this season.

Vick hit .329 with 17 doubles, 10 home runs and two triples. He also recorded 59 runs scored, 27 RBI, 59 walks and 11 stolen bases. Vick's walks' total set a program record for most in a single season. While his on-base percentage (.473) ranked as the sixth-best single-season total in program history and the highest posted by a Baylor underclassman. Additionally, Vick set Baylor freshman records for multi-hit games (27) and extra-base hits (29). The Kerrville, Texas-native earned All-Big 12 second-team accolades for his performance in 2010.

White, an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection, ranked third on his team with 15 home runs and helped the Sooners earn the nation's fifth best total in 2010. The 105 homers rank second all-time in Oklahoma history. He is OU's eighth freshman All-American and fourth under head coach Sunny Golloway, after hitting .293 in 62 games played, including 52 starts.

Wacha was 9-2 with a 2.90 ERA and a save in helping lead the Aggies to the NCAA Coral Gables Regional final. A native of Texarkana, Wacha, allowed just 38 runs in 105 2/3 innings of work and fell just three shy of reaching the 100-strikeout plateau. Wacha's nine victories were the second most all-time by an A&M freshman hurler. He was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention pick.

Cohl Walla from Texas was tabbed for the second-team. He posted a .316 batting average, 40 RBI and 14 stolen bases while earning honorable mention recognition from the league this season.
